Hi Tommy:

Having had three full-term healthy babies, I would like to help in some small way those parents faced with the challenge of you precious little ones. I have currently two crocheted blankets I would like to send to an organization that distributes to families of newborn premies. Please forward any addresses and I'll mail them out. Thanks so much and keep on spreading sunshine!

Hi Tommy:

My name is catherine and i am the mother of preemie twin boys born july 13,1999. the twins were born at 28 weeks gestation and only weighed 2 lbs each. It is so good to hear a happy ending to all of this. Even today our twins are still fighting. One Aaron has a gastrostomy tube that i feed him through with a syringe and Christian has to wear a helmet because his skull bones are out of place due to prematurity. Please ask your mommy to e mail me i think that we have a lot in common. goodluck in life and lots of love....Catherine

Hi Tommy:

The same thing that happened to your wife happened to me. I was 32 weeks along. My son Kai was 4lbs 8 oz and 17 1/2 inches long. He is 3 months old now and is 11 1/2 pounds now. Through everything he went through he is doing great, he does have some shaking in his feet and hands at times, he will be seeing a Neruo in Aug. Doctors feel he will grow out of it. I'm so happy your son is doing good. I love your site. Thank You, Rachel& Mike Vossen Parents of Kai Sabastian 32 weeker

Hi Tommy:

I just finished reading the story of your birth and hospital stay in the NICU. You sure have a neat web site and I loved all the pictures. When they say the birth of a child is truly a mircale, reading your story reminds me again every birth is a gift from God. See you soon. Love, Mrs. Sally

Hi Tommy:

My daughter Hannah was born 12 weeks premature and has had complications with reflux and nec. (Both digestive problems) She is now just 2 years old and is a very healthy and happy miracle. Thank you for having your website to encourage us who have preemies.

We lived 200 miles from where Hannah was born. I was life flighted to the hospital due to plcenta accreta/increta and abruptia. I nearly didn't make it after days in ICU and my daughter's twin did not. We were very lucky despite all that happened. I stayed in the Ronald McDonald house in Houston for the entire stay and my husband stayed at home with our eldest daughter while she was attending school. They came to visit on weekends as we were there for 4.5 months. Thanks again, S. Shelly

Hi Tommy:

My sister in law recently delivered a daughter at 22 weeks of pregnancy. Gillian weighed in at 1 lb 10 oz and was 10 1/2 inches long. She was born alive but the nurses in the delivery room did nothing to sustain her life and they let her die..Our family was shocked that they didn't even try to help the baby. Is there a law that states what age the hospital must try to sustain life? Does the baby have to be 24 weeks old before they will even try to help it live? Please let me know.....our family is devastated by all this.....

Hi Tommy:

My name is Jessica, and I just wanted to say that your story is almost identical to my sons sty, though he had more complications. He was a 23 1/2 weeker and weighed 1 pound 8 ouces at birth, he was born at home, in my bathroom. He had a very difficult stay in the NICU, as did you so I read. He had three hemorrages in his head along with one in his lungs too. He self extubated at 3 months and is home on OČ at 23 weeks old now he is doing well, though problems with vision and hearing. They didn't think he would make it but he did, he was a little fighter just as you appear to have been to. The URL to my page is a page of his pics. I didn't put all of them on because most weren't pretty to look at, but I love him to death now, he's beginning to Coo and sorta talk. I hope he grows as well as you did. Sincerely, Jessica Havens

Hi Tommy:

Im so glad there are now sites avaible for parents of preemie's, it wouldn't have made it so scary 3 years ago. My daughter Margaret Rose was born on 2-10-97 at 24 weeks, she weighed in at 1 pd 4.9 oz, she was my first daughter everything was going great and then she was born early. I spent 6 months in the NICU with her every day it was a experience I will never forget, the kindness of the nurses. Unfortunatly my daughter died before she came home at 6 months old and 9 pounds, but it is so wonderful to hear the successes of preemie babys, I to now have a full term healthy girl name Morgan and I know if Margaret was alive today they would be at each other to. May God bless you all..

Hi Tommy: I am a junior at Elmira College and I am a speech and hearing major. I am involved in a group project dealing with the NICU. I was looking for pictures to show my class when I came across your website. I thought it would be nice to get someone information for someone who has been in a NICU. It's okay if you don't want to answer my questions. I just wanted to know if you still see your doctors? If you could tell anyone that is going through it now what would it be? Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope to hear from you even if it is to say hi. Your friend, Amy

Hi Tommy: I just read your epilogue. It was beautiful. AS the mom of a 35 weeker, your words brought tears to my eyes. They are so true. Even though our son is now 4 mos old and doing wonderful, I still think back on those NICU days with such mixed feelings. After 3 years of infertility my "dream" pregnancy ended abruptly in a c-section also. It was all worth it though. Each night as I rock our son to sleep, I realize what a miracle I have been given. Hi Tommy:

We just had a baby girl on Dec 13,1999. Drew was born at 27 weeks and weighed 2lbs, 1oz. She is still in the NICU and today weighs 4 lbs 15 oz. She will hopefully get home soon. Your web page helped me alot knowing someone knows how we feel. Drew had pretty much the same ups and downs as Thomas and it is encouraging to know how well he is doing. You are a miracle Thomas and know that you are a very special person and always will be. I can't get over how tough our little ones are. They are truly something to be very proud of. Thanks again. Hi Tommy:

I just stumbled upon your web page while looking for info on preemies. My daughter, Emily was born at 28 weeks, 1 lb. 13 oz. She spent 12 weeks in the NICU before they let her come home at an even 4 lbs. She went through much of the same experiences that Tommy did. Including extubating herself. She is doing great now. I'm glad to seee that Tommy is too.

Hi Tommy:

Your story brought tears to my eyes and a lot of memories. We too are parents of preemies. Our first daughter Kaitlin was born still born july 14, 1995 at 29 weeks. We continued to have two more children Meagan born 9 1/2 weeks early weighing 3lbs 15 oz & Matthew born 5 weeks early weighing 7lbs 9 oz (date & weight on Matthew is correct). All my early deliveries were emergency c-section because of placentae abrutio except with Kaitlin as I did not bleed and thought I was having Braxton Hicks and did not get to the hospital in time. I was watched like a hawk for the next 2 pregnancies. I am so grateful for all the special care doctors/nurses to allow me to have 2 more healthy babies! Meagan is now 3 1/2 yrs and Matthew is 2 months (Real Age) and both are doing great. I'm glad I came across your web page it is a true inspiration for parents of preemies. When you are going through times like this it seems like you are the only one who had been down that road. It's nice to read everyone's stories and positive outcomes! Keep up the great work!

Hi Tommy:

Hi to you and your mommy, who sent e-mails to my mommy after I came 3 months early in Dec. 97. I am 2 years old now and doing very well.

You are a very handsome little boy, and I think you should be my valentine! We think of the King family often, because your cybernursery gave my parents a niche of optimism to retreat to when the pressure of caring to me seemed overwhelming. We admire that spirit of sharing and all the time you and your family have taken to tell your story to help others.

Happy Valentine's Day, Tommy. Love, Lili

Hi Tommy:

Just a few lines to say how touched I was to read your story. I had a still born baby born at 30 weeks due to the same condition your mommy had. I then went on to have another 2 healthy children born at term. then I became pregnant again the everything was going fine up until 27 weeks of my pregnancy I didn't feel the baby moving has much has it had been so I went to the hospital and I had some scans the doctors told me that the baby must be delivered by emergency c-section or it wouldn't live the next hour inside me. they rushed me down where I had a baby girl they took her to the special care baby unit where she was put on a ventilator they eventually got to weigh her and she was only 1lb 91/2oz. the rest of my story is exactly the same has yours she would not let go of the oxygen and when she finally did she was 6 months old when we could take her home still weighing 7lb 5oz. she was 3 in November and she has just started going to nursery, she is still small for her age and still only weighs 23lb. she has slight cerebal palsy which affects her talking and walking but the doctors say that she will eventually catch up with children the same age has her. I had to write this to you to tell you it fascinates me to hear of other preemie babies

Hi Tommy:

I left a note in your guestbook on 11/1/99, telling you that my daughter, Jodi Hawkins, had had a baby girl (10/31/99) at 26 weeks--2 lb 1 oz---well, guess what, she is going home from the hospital today!! We are so excited--she is 5 lb 13 oz and is doing wonderful--at this time there are no problems and she seems very "normal".

Your web page has been very helpful to me (her Grammy--4,000 miles from her) to understand some of the things she went through.

Our story is proof the prayer works.

Our best regards and thanks to you and your wonderful family

Hi Tommy:

Your story sounds so similar to mine. I currently have a little girl, Jennifer in an intensive care nursery. She was born at 26 1/2 weeks. Today she is the gestational age of 32 weeks. She was born at 1 lb. 14 ounces, but is shy of 3 lbs. today. She is still getting fed through a tube although she recently is showing some interest in sucking. Jennifer still has apnea and brady episodes in which we occasionally have to 'remind' her to breathe. We lost our first baby, a boy we named Brian due to placenta abruption. He was only 22 weeks gestational age, and was still born. His passing was so devastating to my husband and I that we find Jennifer such a blessing as well as lots of family and friends. I'm afraid that she will be terribly spoiled! Thank you so much for your story.

Hi Tommy: I was very touched reading your story. My daughter, too, was born prematurely (27 weeks). She is doing great, no ill effects now besides being a little small, and she will celebrate her 1st birthday in 9 more days! Reading your family's story reminded me of our pain and happiness and mostly, how incredibly lucky we are to have such "miracles" in our lives. I love her so very much. And I know your family obviously loves you and your sister that way, too. Thank you for reminding me how special a gift we are all given when we have children.

Hi Tommy:

It is great to see and read your story. My son Tyler was January 6, 1999 at 24 1/2 weeks gestation and weighed 1 pound 10.2 ounces and was 12 1/2 inches long. He to was in the hospital for along time. He recently had his first birthday and by most accounts seems to be doing fine. The doctors are a little worried because he is still four months behind, but they are still adjusting his age. Isn't it amazing what medical technology can do now. You never know until you have a premature baby how many micropreemies are actually out there. Again I just want to tell you that I love your story and believe me it gives us parents of preemies a great comfort to see you doing so well at 5 years old. Sincerely yours, Mandy, Alabama

Hi Tommy:

I wanted to say that I am inspired by your parents and also by the way you have come so far since you were born. I have a baby who is now 3 weeks old and was born at 33 weeks. I spent nearly 3in a half months in the hospital before I had him. He is one of the most precious and adorable babies I have ever seen. He is still in icu but is doing wonderful. It's babies like you guys that show that anything can happen because there was one point that the doctors had told me that my baby would not make it and now he is healthy and strong. Good luck in the future and best wishes on the many more accomplishments that you prove to people that they can be done.

Hi Tommy: I loved reading your story. You have come such a long way and I am sure your parents are really proud of you. My daughter was born at 24 weeks and we all had a long road to travel. I am 24 weeks pregnant with my second child now. I will write you again to say Hi and tell you about my new baby. Hopefully it will be in May. Think, that will be 3 months closer to Christmas. Hi Tommy: I have read your story and I think your father has really done a very nice website. On March 15 1997 I gave birth to 2 girls (Cecile and Adelaide). They were born at 26 weeks and weigthed respectively 900g and 1kg (sorry I do not understand your weighting system). Unfortunately our little Adelaide died after 8 days but Cecile survived. She spent 4 months in the hospital here in Paris and when she arrived home she had Oxygene but just for 2 months. She will turn 3 years old in March and she is a very beautiful and quite stubborn little girl. we hope that she will recover from the loss of her twin sister. Hi Tommy:

I was born January 26th. 1959 @ the (new) Hardin county General Hospital, in Rosiclare, Il. 62982 My mother had the same problem with delivering early. She had also had the same problem as your mother had. I was born 10 weeks early, weighed 2lbs. 12 oz. and was 15 inches long. I was baptized 3 times before leaving the hospital. I was baptized again by the awaiting neonatalist that was 90 miles away in Evansville, In. I came home on Easter sunday. My mom was a RN and my dad was a doctor. I have always been drawn to the NICU units. I am a LPN going into Occupational Therapy. But, the nearest delivery hospital is 60 miles away. Anyway, I always wanted to work in labor and delivery, but never did. I know I would very much like to and would be "right" at home. Now a days when I hear of someone delivering early, I don't get as upset as most do because I know what wonderful progression science has made over the last 40 years, and I am writing about it. We were meant to be here and kick some butt!! I am so pleased that you are doing well. I never had any pictures of taken of me till I was about 6 mo. old, and your pictures fascinated me to no end. I did make the local paper @ a year old. It read, "Miracle Baby @ a year old." I weighed 25 pounds!!! I am very very healthy with a 19 month old. Good luck to your family, and my have fun. You have a beautiful sister!!!! Sincerely, Bridgid Rose

Dear Tommy, My sister in law called me last night and said that her water broke. She is only 21 weeks. She is in the hospitl now and they are not sure whether or not she will deliver now or later. They put her on anti-biotics and she will be seeing a specialist on Monday After reading your story, I am very worried because your mommy was 25 weeks when you were born, that is a lot more weeks. If you have any web sites or information for me that may help that would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to find any info on babies that have surrvied at 21 weeks. All I have read is that they usually don't. We are very scared.

Hi Tommy:

My name is Anna Jo Byers. I am 21 years old and my birthday is July 19, 1978. I was a preemie like yourself. I was born 3&1/2 months early also. I weighed 1lb. and 8oz. In 2 days I dropped to 1lb. and 3oz. I was 11&1/2 in. long. The doctors said if I was a boy I would not have lived. You are one lucky kid! Technology has advanced so much since 1978. I thank God every day of my life, because if it was not for Him I would not be alive today.

I was due October 7, 1978. They were going to abort me because my mother was dying of preeclampsia. All of her organs were shutting down. My mom begged them not to kill me. She gave them permission to take me out early by c-section, in order for her to live: on one condition. That being they would do everything in their power to keep me alive. They did all they could with the help of God and I went home 4 months later. You are one lucky child and I thank God for you and every other child that He spares like us. I hope you have a wonderful childhood and a great life. Kids will tease you about being small, but look at it like I did and still do. At least I am alive and healthy! Be sure not to forget, GOD is the one who gave you life! Don't forget to thank and praise Him continually for that. Take care of yourself, kiddo! I'll be praying for you always!, Anna Byers Athur,Illinios 61911

My son, Jake was born at 27 weeks and has amazed doctors and therapists. He had a grade 4 bleed which caused hydrocephalus. He has had a dozen surgeries on his brain for shunt malfunction or infection. He has CP, seizures and developmental delay. He can combat crawl now and I am so proud of him! He will be 23 months old later this month and has been doing great since his battle with a shunt infection in July. Thank you for having a positive site.

Your story sounded VERY familiar to us! Ryan was on the vent, CPAP, oxyhood, and isolette O2. He had a grade 2 IVH bleed, an open PDA, and stage 1 ROP. After 8 1/2 weeks in the Toledo Children's Hospital NICU, he came home on November 7, 1999 with 1/4 litre flow O2 and an apnea monitor. He now is 15 weeks old (1 week adjusted) and weighs 8 lbs. 10 oz, and is 19 3/4 inches long! We truly appreciate your website! It is wonderful to read similar stories and to see how great you are! Thanks for being there! Fondly, Rick, Jennifer, and Ryan Sandru
