Getting Ready to Go Home

Daddy Gets to Feed Tommy
Once he became more of a "feeder/grower" we were able to do
much more for him when we visited. I would give him bottles of breast milk that
Natalie pumped for him. Natalie, of course, would work with him on real
breastfeeding (although they had difficulties as she couldn't be there for every feeding).

Our Overnight Trial Run
Just days before we took him home, we were permitted to stay with him
for the night and be 100% responsible for his care--to make sure we were up for the
challenge. He came home on oxygen, two monitors, and medications all of which we
were responsible for. Of course, after 4 months of NICU parenting, most of it was
second nature to us and we had no problems handling his needs (who needs sleep anyway).

Ready to Go Home
After 4 months in the NICU. The actual homecoming was
indescribably wonderful.
